Jefferson picks Georgia

Van Jefferson

A much-awaited public declaration came down Monday as Scout four-star wide receiver prospect Van Jefferson announced his college plans.

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. — With his senior season already underway, Van Jefferson wanted to put a cap on his recruitment before the calendar flipped over to September.

The No. 24-rated senior wide receiver in the nation is taking his talents to the Southeastern Conference as the 6-foot-2 1/2, 172-pounder declared his intentions Monday to play for Georgia.

The top-rated pass-catcher in the Volunteer State's 2015 signing class chose the Bulldogs over other finalists Florida, Ohio State and Tennessee.

As a junior Jefferson caught 81 passes for 1,231 yards with 16 touchdowns. That earned him a spot on the Tennessee Sports Writers Association's Class 6A team.

He is the son of Tennessee Titans wide receivers coach Shawn Jefferson.
