Two top South Carolina 2010 targets will make their intentions known today as they make their commitments during the U.S. Army All-American Bowl game. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET and will be broadcast nationally on NBC, though some viewing in the Columbia market will be treated to the Gamecocks' SEC basketball opener against Auburn. Tune into GamecockAnthem.com for blow by blow updates.
George Washington HS (Philadelphia, PA) five-star defensive tackle
Sharrif Floyd
will make his announcement at halftime and is thought to be down to
Florida
,
Ohio State
,
South Carolina
and
North Carolina
. Floyd has been at the center of an intense recruiting battle that has seen rumors of him picking each one of the four schools hit internet message boards in the past week. Floyd has taken official visits to all four programs except South Carolina where he took a lengthy unofficial visit to in the summer. While there are signs that Floyd is set to pick Florida, the top prospect says he believes a lot of people will be shocked by his decision, and he has kept most everyone in the dark about which school he intends to pick.
The 6-2, 311-pound Floyd, who also has offers from programs such as Southern Cal, Penn State, Michigan and Miami, is rated the No. 3 defensive tackle and the No. 38 overall prospect in the country by Scout.com. Floyd will start for the East squad at defensive tackle and will wear No. 73.
Darlington HS (S.C.) three-star CB
Victor Hampton
will choose between South Carolina,
Tennessee
and North Carolina during the first quarter of the contest. Hampton was once an early commitment to Florida, but was dropped by the Gators after an incident at Independence HS forced the talented corner to transfer to Darlington. Hampton took an official visit to South Carolina the Nov. 14 weekend, and publicly named the Gamecocks his leader.
The 5-9, 168-pound cornerback has reportedly been impressive during the Army Bowl practice week and is rated the No. 43 cornerback in the nation by Scout.com. Hampton will also compete for the East team and will wear No. 31.
Two other prospects with South Carolina connections will also compete in the game. Gamecock commitment and Greenwood HS standout Kelcy Quarles will play for the East team and is rated the No. 22 defensive tackle in the nation by Scout.com. Quarles will wear No. 99. Five-star Byrnes RB Marcus Lattimore is the center of an intense recruiting battle as well and remains one of the Gamecocks' top overall targets. Lattimore has narrowed his list to South Carolina, Auburn, Penn State and Oregon. Lattimore, who will officially visit South Carolina Jan. 15 and Oregon Jan. 22, will wear No. 28 for the East team.
While the U.S. Army All-American Bowl will be broadcast nationally on NBC, some Columbia viewers will get the local WIS telecast of the Gamecocks' men's basketball SEC opener at
Auburn
, which tips off at 1:30 p.m. As always, you can turn to GamecockAnthem.com for up-to-the-minute updates on Floyd and Hampton's decisions.
