Sidney Rice and Adrian Peterson both had big days against the Lions and raised their profile in the team’s record books. Brett Favre and Jim Kleinsasser also climbed the charts.
GAME NOTES vs. LIONS
Sidney Rice
had a career-high 201 yards receiving, becoming on the fourth player in team history to reach 200 yards in a regular-season game, joining Sammy White (210 in 1976),
Randy Moss
(204 in 1999) and Paul Flatley (202 in 1965).
Adrian Peterson
and Sidney Rice is the only tandem in team history with three games of 300 combined yards. With Rice’s 201 receiving yards and Peterson’s 133 rushing, they had 334 yards (not counting Peterson’s 10 yards receiving) on Sunday against the Lions. They also had a 319-yard game against Baltimore on Oct. 18 and a 362-yard effort against San Diego on Nov. 4, 2007.
Peterson is the seventh Viking to reach 4,000 rushing yards in a career.
Peterson set a team record for fewest games needed to reach 4,000 yards, doing it in 39 games. Chuck Foreman is next on the list and needed 57 games to reach that milestone.
Peterson is tied for fourth in the NFL for fewest games needed to reach 4,000 yards. Eric Dickerson holds the league mark, reaching the milestone in 33 games. Curtis Martin and Jim Brown each did it in 38 games.
Peterson’s two rushing touchdowns gives him 11 on the season and ties a team record for most after the first nine games of any season. Foreman (1976) and Bill Brown (1968) each did it in 11 games.
Peterson moves into fourth place in team history in career rushing touchdowns, now with 33. Ahead of him on the charts are Foreman and Bill Brown (52 each) and Ted Brown (40).
Peterson set a team record for most seasons with 10 rushing touchdowns. He has done it each of his three seasons in the league. Foreman had two seasons with 10 rushing TDs.
Peterson had his 10th game with 100 yards rushing in one half. He did that in the first half on Sunday.
Brett Favre
is tied for second place with Randall Cunningham and Tommy Kramer for most passing plays of at least 40 yards in one game. Favre had four such plays Sunday, completing passes of 56, 43, 43 and 40. Cunningham holds the team record with five passes of at least 40 yards on Oct. 5, 1998 against Green Bay.
Favre reached 96 games (with a minimum of 20 attempts) with a passer rating of 100 or better, extending his NFL lead by 27 games over
Peyton Manning
. Favre’s teams are 88-8 when he is 100-plus in the ratings.
Favre’s streak for consecutive games with multiple touchdown passes at the Metrodome ends at 11. He owns two of the top four NFL performances in that category, having 12 consecutive games at Lambeau with multiple touchdowns and 11 consecutive at the Metrodome (eight with Green Bay and three with the Vikings).
Kurt Warner
shares the record at 12 from his days in the Edwards Jones Dome, and Jim Everett shares second place with 11 games at Anaheim Stadium.
Favre has now played in 300 consecutive games, including the playoffs.
Jim Kleinsasser
moved into third place all-time in team history for consecutive games played by a tight end. He has 73, trailing Brent Novoselsky (91) and Steve Jordan (113).
