Gilmore has three official visits set

South Pointe (Rock Hill, SC) four-star cornerback Stephon Gilmore is one of the top overall prospects in the southeast, and the talented athlete has led his team to a great start to its 2008 campaign. Read inside as Gilmore updates his recruitment, discusses which schools he plans to take official visits to this fall, and tells GamecockAnthem.com about his team's hot start.

"It's going real good. We're 2-0 right now. We just played our second game this past Friday," Gilmore said. "I've been playing quarterback, cornerback and then punt return a couple of times. I like playing cornerback. I've been making plays there."

Gilmore has set official visits to South Carolina (Sept. 27 vs. UAB), Alabama (Nov. 15 vs. Mississippi St.), and Tennessee (Sept. 20 vs. Florida). The explosive athlete broke down what he likes about each of those programs.

South Carolina: "I've been there a couple of times. They're the home-state school. I mean everybody wants me to go there, but I've got to go to the best place for me. I talk to Coach (Ellis) Johnson about every week right now. I've got a couple of players committed (to South Carolina), they text me every now and then."

Alabama: "I went there this summer during a camp. I was glad I went. I got to talk to Coach (Nick) Saban, and my mom got to meet him and my dad and my whole family. He said he liked my size at the cornerback position, and I think they're going to be pretty good in the future."

Tennessee: "I've been there probably three times this summer. I went to a couple of games last year and I liked the stadium. (They have) 110,000 people every game. I talk to Coach May every week. He also likes my size at the cornerback position."

While Gilmore says those are the only three visits set in stone, he would also like to take two other official visits, but hasn't decided where else he will go.

"I'm looking for two more schools to visit," Gilmore said. "I talked to Florida today. Florida State and Clemson, it will probably be between those three. I don't know yet, but it's between those three."

He is receiving in-state pressure from South Carolina commitments DaMario Jeffery and teammate Charles Holmes as well as Clemson commitment Devonte Holloman to play with them at their respective schools.

"They all are close friends of mine," Gilmore said. "(Jeffery and Holmes) stay on me. Devonte Holloman stays on me about Clemson. But in the end I've got to do what I want to do."

While Gilmore had said in the past that he'd like to announce his decision at Clemson's Death Valley during the Weekend of Champions if his team makes it that far, he hinted on Monday night that a decision could come sooner than that.

"I've got to make it soon, because I'm graduating early. It will probably be a little bit after I take those [official] visits."

The smooth playmaker says the official visits he takes will be the final chance for those programs recruiting him to make a lasting impression.

"This will be one of my last times going to see the schools before I make my decision," Gilmore said. "I've already been to Alabama, South Carolina and Tennessee so I just want to see them for the last time. I mean, I want to go play on a winning team, but I want to be able to make a great impact on the team. I just want to feel like I'm at home when I go there."
