football, basketball, baseball and recruiting, but you will also be able to call in and interact with the hosts and their guests each week. In addition to the sterling football analysis you’ll get from JJ and Matt, you’ll also hear from the movers and shakers in Carolina athletics each week. Monday’s show will feature Gamecock defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson talking about this week’s season opener with NC State. Callers can call in toll-free at 800-420-3462.
The show can currently be heard on the following seven stations, with more stations expected to be added soon:
Allendale WDOG-FM 93.5 FM
Anderson WROP-AM 1390 AM
Barnwell WDOG-AM 1460 AM
Columbia WZMJ-FM 93.1 FM
Greenville WOLT-FM 103.3 FM
Greenwood WYOR-FM 94.1 FM
Kershaw WKSC-AM 1300 AM
In addition, you can listen live over the internet at www.wolt-fm.com. The show will also be available in a podcast format shortly after the conclusion of each show. The season opener is Aug. 25, and the show will be heard every Monday through December 8, 2008. After a holiday break, the show will resume on Jan. 5, and will again be on every Monday through May 18. It may continue beyond May 18 a few more weeks to the end of the 2009 Carolina baseball season.
This past week saw the introduction of two programs involving Gamecock Anthem staff members. Matt Younginer was with Gamecock Anthem from Day 1, and he and his co-host Jonathan Reynolds debuted their new show “The Zone” on ESPN Columbia 93.1, which can be heard every Monday through Friday from 3-6 pm. Jonathan Jolley can also be heard on a regular basis on The Zone as their featured Gamecock recruiting expert, and will also be bringing his insight on USC football as a regular football analyst on the show as well.
The other Anthem staffer who had a show debut this past week was Eric Guimaraes, whose Fantasy Football show “The Front Office” kicked off on Saturday morning. Each Saturday morning from 9-11 am on AM 1400 in Columbia, Eric and Fantasy Sports guru Buddha Driggers will be on the air discussing a red hot topic these days – fantasy football. Over 30 million Americans played fantasy football last season, and most experts expect that to grow exponentially. If you're a fantasy football geek, or just curious, give them a try. You can listen to them online at 1400theteam.com. You can also hear them every Thursday do a one hour segment on Sportstalk First Edition from 2-3 pm.
Don’t forget that Eric and Buddha are also the hosts of our new Fantasy Sports Forum here on Anthem, and are still looking for folks to join them in their new league being hosted here on Anthem. You can find the forum by clicking on the forums tab on the front page or from another forum, and selecting it from the menu. Here is a direct link as well: http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=184&f=4064
Another talented person who has been with Gamecock Anthem from the beginning is our featured baseball insider, Ryan Clary. Ryan has joined Matt Smith and Mark Hauser as a co-host of Spartanburg’s longest running daily local sports talk show, Open Mic Daily, which airs weekdays from 3:00-6:00pm. The Open Mic Daily crew can be heard on ESPN 1400 AM in Spartanburg, or on the net at www.espn1400am.com.
Also for those of you in the upstate, don’t forget Ron Scarborough’s show ”The Evening Sports Page” heard each night Monday through Friday from 8-10 on Anderson’s Talk 103.1 FM. Ron is joined by Jonathan Jolley every Monday night throughout the entire year at 9:05 to discuss the latest in Gamecock sports. You can also hear Ron’s show over the net at www.theeveningsportspage.net.
Wes Mitchell is the Gamecock Insider on Tyler Cupp’s “The Locker Room Sports Show” heard on Camden’s Kool 102.7 FM every Monday from 6-8 pm. In addition to Wes’s in-depth breakdown of the upcoming game with NC State, Tyler will have live on this Monday’s show former Gamecock great Steve Tanneyhill.
