Timberland (Saint Stephens, SC) standout offensive lineman Quinten Washington is one of the top overall prospects in the Palmetto State's Class of 2009, and the athletic trenchman already has six scholarship offers to his credit. Where do the Gamecocks stand early on in the race for this elite in-state lineman's services? Read inside to find out.

The 6'4", 315 pound Washington, who projects as an offensive guard on the college level, has already received scholarship offers from South Carolina, Clemson, Tennessee, Alabama, Maryland and N.C. State.

The home state Gamecocks were the first school to step forward with an offer last spring, and Washington is very familiar with South Carolina after attending USC's annual junior day event earlier this month.

"I went to USC's junior day. It was good. I talked with my position coach (John Hunt) and talked with Steve Spurrier also. I learned a lot about (South Carolina) when I was there," said Washington. "They have a great athletic program. Everything is really cool. I like the coaches a lot, and I like the way they carry their team."

According to Washington, he also likes how Steve Spurrier Jr. is recruiting him for the Gamecocks.

"Coach Spurrier Jr. is my recruiter. He's just like one of us. He's cool. He's like a friend, and I can talk to him and stuff," he said. "USC is recruiting me the hardest. Coach Spurrier Jr. is really trying to get me there."

Washington is not yet ready to name any favorites and isn't sure of a timeframe for his decision, but he does know what factors he will look for when deciding on his college choice.

"The education level, the graduation rates and the school atmosphere."

The future 4-star lineman, who squats 570 pounds and benches 360, closed by describing what type of player he is on the gridiron.

"I'm strong, and I can run. I don't let my quarterback get hit. I get the job done and a little bit more."
