Peach State LB racking up early offers

Peachtree Ridge (Suwanee, GA) 4-star linebacker Kevin Minter projects to be one of the top linebacker prospects in the southeast in the Class of 2009, and the hard hitting defender has already racked up eight scholarship offers. Where does South Carolina stand early on in the race for the Junior National 100 selection? Read inside to find out.

The 6'0", 235 pound Minter, who totaled 137 tackles and 6 sacks in his junior season, has already picked up scholarship offers from LSU, N.C. State, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Purdue, Kentucky and Ole Miss. With more offers still to come and the fact that he hasn't visited any of the aforementioned schools to date, Minter isn't ready to name any favorites at this point.

"I don't really have a favorite yet," said Minter. "I'm keeping my options open. I plan to take a few visits in the next couple of months."

The only visit Minter has scheduled right now is to Baton Rouge for LSU's junior day next weekend, but he said he's interested in visiting several of the schools that have offered him.

One school that Minter is looking forward to seeing is South Carolina as he's heard some good things about the USC program from a pair of former Gamecocks.

"I haven't visited South Carolina yet, but I like what I've heard about them. I used to train at the same (gym) with Blake Mitchell and a defensive tackle that came out of there. They said it's a real nice program with real good people down there. They said South Carolina has real good coaches too."

Minter said he also likes what he's seen of his USC recruiter Shane Beamer thus far.

"I like Coach Beamer a lot. He seems real cool and like a real nice guy."

According to Minter, he plans to make a decision by the end of the summer, and he knows a couple of key factors that he'll consider when choosing his college destination.

"I'm looking at making a decision in the summer, probably just before two-a-days start up. Coaching and playing time are two big factors for me."

Minter, who squats 575 pounds and benches 320, closed by describing what type of player he is on the gridiron.

"I don't stop. I'm always trying to chase down the ball and always trying to be within two or three yards of the ball when the whistle is blown. That's what my coaches always tell me to do. I always try to be in the play."

Minter was an honorable mention All-State selection last year in Georgia. He holds a 3.0 GPA.
