Gamecocks land breakaway threat at RB

Coach Robert Gillespie and the Gamecocks picked up a commitment from speedy Brookwood (Snellville, GA) running back Kenny Miles over the weekend. The emerging backfield prospect is one of the most explosive playmakers in the Peach State's class of 2008, and he decided to put an end to his recruitment when South Carolina extended an offer his way on Saturday. Read inside for all the details.

The 5'10", 200 pound Miles has exploded onto the scene this fall, racking up 2,178 yards rushing and 27 touchdowns, while leading his Brookwood team to a number one seed in the Georgia state playoffs. The Gamecocks were one of the first teams to discover Miles this year, and after officially picking up a South Carolina offer on Saturday, he committed to USC on the spot.

"I really like South Carolina a lot with their offense and everything. I've wanted to go there for a while, and they finally offered me yesterday. I was like, 'Man, this is a dream come true,'" said Miles. "I love the environment up there. It really just felt like home. When I was with the players, it was like a brotherhood, just like it is down here at Brookwood. That was really important to me. Then the fans, they support them so hard. If you're a Gamecock fan, you're a die-hard."

Miles is a hard nosed runner that also possesses elite speed, and he believes that he'll fit well in South Carolina's offense.

"(Coach Robert Gillespie) said they need somebody that can take it all the way, and I know that I can do that for them. He knows I'm physical out of the backfield, running for hard yards, but I also have good speed. He said, 'We'll get you bigger, faster and stronger, so be ready,'" said Miles. "I would say that I'm a really, really, really aggressive runner. I'm always running to get the first down, but at the same time, I have enough speed to get around the corner and bust the big plays. I run a 4.3 (forty yard dash)."

According to Miles, his relationship with Gillespie, his recruiter and future position coach at South Carolina, is another factor that led to him becoming a Gamecock.

"We connect real good. Sometimes I'll call him or he'll call me, and we won't even talk about football. Sometimes we'll just talk about academics, relationships with God or family and friends. I just feel open with him, and I really like that."

Miles also had offers from Central Florida and Marshall, and he was receiving strong interest from programs like Clemson, Tennessee and Southern Miss. However, he ultimately knew South Carolina was the right place for him, and he believes the Gamecocks are not far away from winning their first SEC title.

"I'm looking forward to going to South Carolina and winning an SEC Championship. I think that with the team they have now and the coaches they have now, it can be done. South Carolina was where I wanted to go all along, and I'm firm in my commitment."

The Peach State standout closed by passing on a message to the Gamecock Nation.

"I'm a Gamecock, and I'm coming to win a championship."
