Wilson makes official visit to USC
The 6'0", 210 pound Wilson, who is considered one of the top outside linebacker prospects in the southeast this recruiting year, said he thoroughly enjoyed his time at USC, despite the Gamecocks being upset by Vanderbilt on the gridiron.
"It went great. It was really good," said Wilson. "I got to meet with the players and talk with all the coaches. I went to the game, and I hung out after the game with a couple of players. I checked out all the academic stuff. Even though they lost the game, I still enjoyed it. It was like icing on the cake for me."
According to Wilson, he is still firmly committed to the Gamecocks, and he's looking forward to arriving at USC in January to get a head start on his college career.
"I'm firm. I plan to be there in January. There's a lot of other schools (still showing interest), but I've let them all know that I'm going to South Carolina. They still call, but I don't really worry about it."
When Wilson enrolls at South Carolina, he'll be reunited with his friend and former teammate Jamire Williams, who is a freshman cornerback for the Gamecocks this fall.
"I saw Jamire while I was up there, and he said he loves it there. He said everything's going great for him, and he can't wait 'til I get up there."
While the South Carolina offense struggled to generate much production on Saturday, Wilson said that the Gamecock defense and specifically the improved play of USC's young linebackers caught his attention while at the game.
"Their defense is doing real good. I feel like their linebackers are getting better. They're young at that position with a couple of players like (Cliff) Matthews and also (Rodney) Paulk starting. I feel like they're just learning and getting better."
Wilson, who runs a 4.55 second forty yard dash, says that the Gamecock coaches are encouraging him to arrive at USC ready to play early next year.
"They've just told me to come in January for their winter conditioning and there's a good possibility I'll play early, especially on special teams. They've already said I could play on special teams early with a possibility to play on defense. I'll play either strongside or WILL linebacker. They'd like to keep me in space."
Wilson is the leader of a star-studded First Coast defense this fall, and he discussed how his senior season is going thus far.
"It's going real good. We're 2-0 in the district, and we're looking to make a real strong run in the playoffs and win state. Everybody's been playing good on defense. We're playing fast, smart and making plays. People should look for us. We've just got to make sure we keep playing as a team," said Wilson. "Personally, I'm playing real persistent. I lead the team in tackles, and I've got 2 interceptions and 3 fumble recoveries. I know I've got over 90 tackles by now."
Fresh off his official visit to USC, Wilson closed by passing on a message to the Gamecock Nation.
"We're looking for an SEC Championship real soon. It might even be this year. They're doing real good this year. Tell them the Shaq Attack is coming."
