Quinn Takes In USC's Season Opener

South Carolina played host to one of the top overall prospects in the Palmetto State's class of 2008 on Saturday night, as Fort Dorchester (North Charleston, SC) 4-star linebacker/defensive end Robert Quinn was on hand for the Gamecocks' season opening contest against Louisiana-Lafayette. How did Quinn enjoy his time in Columbia? Read inside to find out.

Robert Quinn, who measures in at a solid 6'4" and 255 pounds, has attended numerous South Carolina football games in recent years, but he still enjoyed the game day festivities at USC on Saturday and even got to interact with a few of the current players.

"I went up there (Saturday) for the game. It was nice. It's right up the street for us. I've been there before, but I was excited about getting back there and excited about football season," said Quinn. "I met with all the coaches. I talked to a couple of the other prospects that were there, and I talked with some of the players. I talked to Casper and Jasper Brinkley, and then when I was walking out, Cliff Matthews came up and I talked to him. We were just getting to know each other."

Quinn, who is being recruited by Coach Shane Beamer for the Gamecocks, continues to have a positive impression of the South Carolina football program.

"They've got Coach Spurrier. They've got good players, and they're trying to do what everybody else is doing - Get to that SEC championship and hopefully a national championship."

According to Quinn, he isn't ready to name any favorites yet, but he does hope to make several official visits this fall.

"I'm still open to everybody really. At least everybody that's offered me. Those are the only ones I can really look at. I plan to (take all five of my official visits), but some people say that's going to be hard to do... I'm going to sit down with my dad, and I'm probably going to go to a couple other games this year."

Quinn, who racked up 12 tackles and 2 sacks in Fort Dorchester's season opening victory over Goose Creek two weeks ago, said he's not sure when he'll be ready to make a decision on his college choice, as he's currently focusing on his senior season.

"I'm not sure right now (on a decision timeframe). I'm trying not to let (recruiting) bother me. I'm just finishing up my high school career and my senior year in high school."

When it does come time for Quinn to make a commitment, he stated that a handful of key factors will play into his decision.

"The academic program, the fan support, how I feel being on campus and that they're not too far away. I still want to see my family come up to the games here and there."
