Although the football season doesn’t officially kick off until September 1, South Carolina fans will be able to get an early look at one of the Gamecocks’ highly touted incoming freshmen this summer just by turning on their TV. Running back signee Brian Maddox has been selected to be a participant on ESPNU’s hit show “Summer House,” which will begin airing its second season in late July.
Summer House
made a successful debut last summer, showcasing six of the top incoming freshmen football players from around the country and testing their limits with a series of both football and non-football related challenges. The second season will feature the same theme, as the future college stars will compete against each other throughout their weeklong stay on the show, earning points through different competitions in an effort to be crowned “Big Man On Campus” at week‘s end. Between competitions, the players will enjoy interacting with each other and guest sports celebrities, while learning life lessons that will ultimately help them both on and off the football field.
Brian Maddox
’s father, Eddie Maddox, confirmed on Monday night that his son has in fact been selected to take part in the hit show this summer, which will be filmed from June 11 - June 21 in New York City.
“He’s going to be doing
ESPN’s Summer House
,” said Maddox. “He’s pretty pumped up about it. He‘s looking at it, and he can‘t wait to get to New York (for filming).”
The entire cast of players that will be joining Maddox has not yet been released, but the “House dad” is once again expected to be 11-year NFL veteran and ESPN college football analyst, Chris Spielman, who will provide coaching and support for the players throughout the week.
Joan Lynch, executive producer of ESPN Original Entertainment, detailed the vision of the
Summer House
show in a press release before last summer’s debut.
"We are excited to present this unique and original series that will give our viewers a compelling look at some of the best college football talent in the country before they head off to college," said Lynch. "
ESPNU Summer House
will capture the character, passion and athleticism of each player as they test their abilities in new and different situations, with Spielman providing outstanding life lessons, discipline and mentorship."
The second season is expected to debut in late July, with the eight, thirty minute shows airing weekly on ESPNU on Tuesday nights at 7:30 p.m. ET, with re-airs scheduled for Wednesdays at midnight (9 p.m. PT) on ESPN2.
