Sunshine State WR Names Top Two
The 6'4, 182 pound Commack, who has been timed at 4.48 seconds in the forty yard dash, broke onto the scene with a stellar junior season, and the Sunshine State standout discussed his junior campaign.
"It was a good season. I caught a lot of deep balls and made a lot of good plays for my team," said Commack. "I made some big plays in crunch time, so we won a lot of big games. I had 10 touchdowns with over 600 receiving yards and a lot of clutch catches."
Coaches around the country have taken notice of Commack's talents, and he already claims an impressive list of offers.
"Recruiting is going good. I'm getting a new offer every two or three weeks. Right now I've got six offers. They're from Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Illinois, Minnesota, North Carolina State, and Florida State."
Commack, who is also receiving strong interest from Florida, Central Florida, and West Virginia, said that two teams currently sit atop his list of favorites.
"South Carolina and Georgia Tech are tied for number one."
The elite receiver shared what stands out about each of his two favorite schools:
South Carolina - "I like the coaching staff and the way they spread the ball around a lot. Plus they've got two of the (First Coast High School) seniors that are leaving this year to go up there and play for South Carolina. I'd have some friends up there with me."
Georgia Tech - "Georgia Tech throws the ball around a lot too. Like Calvin Johnson, they give the receiver a chance to get the ball. Their coaching staff is good, and I like their recruiting coach, Coach (Buddy) Geis."
Commack's former teammates that will be attending South Carolina, Jamire Williams and Arkee Smith, have told him a little bit about what USC has to offer.
"They told me that South Carolina has a beautiful campus, and they really like the coaches. They like (Steve) Spurrier and (Steve) Spurrier Jr. They‘re happy to be going there."
One of Commack's current teammates, running back Jermaine Thomas, is another highly touted 2008 prospect at First Coast, and the two have discussed playing their college ball together.
"Me and Jermaine (Thomas) have talked about playing in college together. He's one of my best friends. Neither one of our decisions will probably have an effect on the other, but we've been talking a lot about going to the same school."
Commack, who is being recruited by Coach Steve Spurrier Jr. for the Gamecocks, knows what factors he is looking for in a school.
"A good education program is important, to make sure I learn something when I go to school. It's not all about football. I've got to make sure I get an education. Also, the football program and the coaches."
While the Gamecocks and Yellow Jackets are currently the teams to beat, Commack says not to expect a decision from him until sometime in the fall.
"Right now I'm just sitting back and waiting, checking out different schools. My decision will probably come sometime during my senior season."
Commack, who said he models his game after former Georgia Tech standout Calvin Johnson, shared what type of player he is on the gridiron.
"I'm hard working. I have good leadership. I'm a clutch player. You can throw the ball up at any point in the game, and I'll make the play. I can win the game for you. I always take responsibility for whatever happens in the game. You can just depend on me at any time in the game."
Commack closed by discussing what to expect from his First Coast squad in the fall.
"We're going to have a great little powerhouse. They know us statewide and hopefully nationwide. We've probably got fifteen potential D-I players, so we're shooting for state next year. We can win state if we keep our minds to it."
