Garcia Excited To Join Gamecocks This Week
The 6'3, 212 pound Garcia, who will arrive at USC on Friday, is excited to begin the college experience.
"I'm leaving for up there tomorrow at 10 o'clock in the morning. I'm meeting my dad in Georgia, and we're staying at one of his client's houses. Then we're driving up to South Carolina on Friday," said Garcia. "I'm just looking forward to getting in school and all that to start learning. I like the area, and I'm looking forward to meeting all the new people."
Garcia elected to graduate from high school early so he could compete for early playing time, and he hopes to make some noise once spring practice starts up in March.
"I want to do what I do. It's kind of hard to explain, I just want to get out there and start playing and start learning so I can work my way up the depth chart."
The elite signal caller has kept in close contact with the USC coaches as he inches closer to beginning his college career.
"I've talked with Coach (Steve) Spurrier and Coach (David) Reaves probably once every two days. They keep telling me that they want to start teaching me as soon as possible. That's why they wanted me to graduate early and get up there to just start learning. They‘re definitely looking forward to coaching me."
Garcia said he enjoyed watching the Gamecocks 44-36 shootout victory over Houston in the Liberty Bowl a couple of weeks ago.
"Yeah, their bowl win was very, very impressive. Blake (Mitchell) played real well. We're definitely going to miss Sidney Rice though, that's for sure."
The Sunshine State standout took part in the annual Offense-Defense All-American game last week, along with several other Gamecock commitments, and he enjoyed getting to know his future teammates.
"It was awesome, especially because we had eight guys there that are going to commit to South Carolina and are going there. It was fun hanging out with them and getting to know them all. It was just an unbelievable experience being with all those talented guys, and it was a little taste of what the next level's going to be like. We're going to have a pretty nice little team coming up at South Carolina in a couple years, so I'm definitely looking forward to it."
Lastly, Garcia wanted to share a message with Gamecock Nation as he is set to join the team later this week.
"Get ready to win. That's all I'm going to say. Get ready to win it."
