Robertson Hopes To Garner MVP Honors

Scotland (Laurinburg, NC) 4-star defensive end Travian Robertson is widely considered to be one of the top defensive end prospects in the country this year, and he is showcasing his talents this week at the 70th annual Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas. GamecockAnthem.com caught up with the USC commitment after a recent Shrine Bowl workout, and he shared his thoughts on the all-star event.

Robertson, who measures in at an imposing 6'4 and 230 pounds, said he is having a lot of fun this week at the Shrine Bowl.

"It's been good. It's been smooth," said Robertson. "I'm having a lot of fun hanging out with my boys and just practicing to beat South Carolina."

One thing Robertson noticed right off the bat was the upgrade in speed across the board during the Shrine Bowl workouts.

"It's fast out here. It's like two times faster than regular high school games. I've had to get used to it."

Robertson, who committed to South Carolina back in July, has gone head to head with Clemson offensive line commitment Landon Walker throughout the week of practice, and in what could be a preview of things to come in their college careers, the two Tar Heel State prospects have battled it out in one of the most heated match ups of the week.

"Oh yeah, (Walker) is fast, and he's a pretty good lineman. He's the best I've went against since I've been playing. I'm looking forward to seeing him over the next several years."

There is never any shortage of trash talk in all-star events like this, and according to Robertson, he's exchanged some jabs with a pair of future teammates during the week.

"We've been doing a little bit of trash talking. I know most of the boys like Cliff (Matthews) and Brian (Maddox), I just play around with them a little bit. It‘ll pick up even more the closer we get to game time."

Lastly, Robertson shared what his goals are for Saturday's clash against the Sandlappers.

"One of my goals is to get MVP and defensive player of the year. The other one is just to win. I want to win, play hard, and stay safe. I want to come out the same way I came in."
