Brian Maddox Talks Shrine Bowl

T.L. Hanna (Anderson, SC) 4-star running back Brian Maddox was the top tailback prospect in the state of South Carolina this year, so it’s no surprise that he is now showcasing his talents at the annual Shrine Bowl, which features the best high school seniors from the states of North and South Carolina.
Maddox, who weighs in at a solid 6’0 and 220 pounds, was impressive in the first day of workouts, and he said he is enjoying spending time with his Sandlapper teammates both on and off the field.
“I love it. It’s a great group of guys, being with
Gary Gray
,
Cliff Matthews
,
Willy Korn
, and that bunch. We all have a lot of fun together.”
One thing Maddox noticed in Monday’s practice sessions was the overall level of speed on the field.
“It’s real fast out here. It’s another different level. It’s preparing me for college I guess, because everybody is fast on this level.”
According to Maddox, who is a solid USC commitment, there is a fair amount of trash talk being exchanged between him and his future Gamecock teammates on the North Carolina squad.
“It’s real fun playing with all the (
South Carolina
) guys. Then you’ve got
Travian Robertson
,
Melvin Ingram
, and
Jason Barnes
on the other team. It’s real fun. We started some trash talk last week on our official visit to South Carolina, and it’s continuing out here.”
When asked what his goals are for Saturday’s 70th annual Shrine Bowl contest, Maddox said that he hopes to be the workhorse out of the Sandlapper backfield.
“I would like to get 100 yards or more Saturday with two or three touchdowns, and hopefully we can beat those guys.”
