Richardson Checks In From North - South Game
GamecockAnthem.com caught up with Richardson yesterday, and he checked in from the all-star event, which features some of the top high school seniors in the state of South Carolina.
Richardson, who measures in at a solid 6'4 and 270 pounds, talked about how the week of practice is going in preparation for Saturday's 59th annual SCADA North-South All-Star Football Game.
"I'm doing great. I'm having a good time down here. The fellas are great. I couldn't ask for nothing more," said Richardson. The level of competition is right where I thought it would be. It's tough competition. All of the guys are great. The coaches picked them, so they had to be good. The level of competition is good. It's like that next step after high school football. The linebackers are quick and everything. The next game I'm going to be playing in is the All-American game in Florida, so I know it's going to be even greater from there. I'm just ready. The competition is great."
The standout lineman was excited to hear about the Gamecocks newest commitment, Stephen Garcia, pulling the trigger on Thursday afternoon.
"Yeah, I heard about his commitment. It's going to be a good time. He's got good character, and he's a good guy to hang out with. I'm excited to get in there with him. I'm very excited right now."
Richardson, who has served as the original ambassador for this recruiting class, has made it a priority to keep in touch with his fellow prospects throughout the recruiting process, and he said that nothing has changed.
"No doubt. We always keep in touch. Travian (Robertson), Cliff (Matthews), Eric Baker, Melvin (Ingram), and all of them. We're good friends."
The versatile Richardson has seen time at defensive end this week in practice, which has given him the opportunity to interact with highly touted, Fort Dorchester (North Charleston, SC) standout defensive end Carlos Dunlap.
"Oh yeah, me and Carlos play (defensive) end together, so we've got a great relationship. He's a good player, no doubt. I'm trying to get him to go to USC with me, and we'll see how it works out."
Lastly, Richardson wanted to share a message with all of the Gamecock fans, simply saying that good things are on the way.
"We've got the top recruiting class I think USC has ever had, so good things are about to happen."
