Nicholls Looking Forward To USC Visit

Blanche Ely (Pompano Beach, FL) stud defensive tackle Dontee Nicholls has accumulated an impressive list of offers, including tenders from major programs like South Carolina, Auburn, West Virginia, Louisville, and Rutgers. The Scout.com 3-star rated prospect recently had his season come to a disappointing finish, but he is now gearing up to make his official visits. Read inside for full story.
Nicholls, who weighs in at 6’2 and nearly 300 pounds, said the recruiting process is going good, and he is looking forward to visiting
South Carolina
this weekend.
“Recruiting is going good. I’m going to visit South Carolina this weekend,” said Nicholls. “I’m looking forward to just going up there and enjoying myself, seeing how the environment is up there, and how the players react with the coaches.”
The standout defensive tackle has one other visit currently set up, but he knows of two more trips that he plans on scheduling.
“Yeah, I’ve got a visit set up with
Rutgers
also for December 8. I‘m still planning on setting things up with
West Virginia
and
Georgia
too.”
While the recruiting process now has his full attention, Nicholls is not ready to name any favorites.
“I don’t have any favorites right now. I‘m just keeping things open.”
Nicholls, who possesses a rare combination of size, strength, and quickness for a defensive lineman, said he will be looking for several factors when making a decision on his college choice.
“My parents and my family are really going to help me make a decision. The things I’m going to be looking for are what type of players are they putting out, how many of their players graduate at the top of their class, graduation rates, and stuff like that.”
Nicholls has an idea of when he would like to make a final decision.
“Most likely it will be late January or early February.”
One factor playing in the Gamecocks favor is Nicholls relationship with recruiter Robert Gillespie, who made an in-home visit with him on Wednesday night.
“Coach Gillespie is a pretty nice guy. We talk from time to time and joke a lot. He’s a good coach. From the conversations we’ve been having, he’s an all around person. He’s a pretty good guy.”
Lastly, when Nicholls was asked to describe himself on the gridiron, he warned not to let his nice persona off the field fool you.
“I’m a nice, friendly person on the outside, but when it comes time to put on that equipment, I can be the nastiest person in the world. I’m strong, I have good awareness, I’m pretty agile on the field, and I’ve been around football all my life.”
