Bowman, Rivers Shine in Anson County win

It's that time of year where every game matters. Everything is left on the field. Big players make big plays. Simply put, win or go home.

Anson County made the trip to High Point, NC to take on Army All-American and Clemson commitment Marcus Gilchrist and his TW Andrews squad. Anson County came out firing on all cylinders, as they rolled to a 21-0 win.

Clearly leading the way on offense was South Carolina commitment Michael Bowman. He is a fun player to watch and can do anything needed on the football field. The word that best describes Bowman is versatile. Projected to be a WR at the next level, Bowman plays wingback in his high school offense.

Bowman clearly demands a lot of attention, which takes a lot off of his teammates. When Bowman gets the ball, watch out. This kid can take it to the house anytime he touches the ball. He has tremendous balance and vision, changing direction on a dime, and did that several times tonight. Bowman never gives up and always seems to get positive yardage He reminds you a lot of current Wake Forest wide receiver, Willie Idlette.

Bowman finished up with 17 carries, totaling 147 yards and a touchdown. His high school team doesn't throw the ball much, as Bowman wasn't targeted once. 147 yards and a touchdown isn't a bad day at the office. South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier will have plenty of options on how he wants to use Mr. Bowman.

Anchoring the defense was Virginia Tech commitment, linebacker Barquell Rivers. This kid was impressive on the evening. Rivers has tremendous speed and acceleration, ranging from sideline to sideline.

Rivers ran down an Andrews' wide receiver that was gone for a touchdown. This guy is a game changer on defense. Once he chases someone down, he also lays down the lumber in a big way. Several of his hits tonight were thunderous. Rivers finished up with double digit tackles. It's nice to see a player that finishes.

With the way Anson County played tonight, it would be hard to imagine anyone wanting to play them in the playoffs.
