With a demoralizing loss to the Georgia Bulldogs and a suspension to South Carolina's starting QB Blake Mitchell, the Gamecock Nation was in need of some good news. It comes in the form of a clarification from one of the nation's top prospects who is getting ready for "the biggest game of his life." Quarterback Stephen Garcia has confirmed that South Carolina has the clear lead in the recruiting battle for his services.

"South Carolina is my clear favorite," he said. "I just really feel comfortable with their coaching staff and the fan support they have." Garcia is currently rated by Scout.com as a 4-Star prospect, and was also rated as the third best quarterback in the country at the Elite Eleven Camp this summer. He is getting ready to take his 8th ranked Jefferson HS Dragons on the road to face the #1 ranked Armwood Hawks. The game can be seen on ESPNU Friday night at 8pm. "We haven't beaten them since I was in the Seventh Grade," Garcia said. "I have watched a lot of film on them and they are very good." He went on to say, "They are going to be tough but I think we got them this year."

Many want to know when Stephen will officially announce where he is going to go to college. "It is probably going to be after the season, right now I want to focus on Armwood and then on winning State," he said. "It will probably be before signing day and if I feel like it, maybe in the next few weeks."

Beside the fact that Stephen wants to focus on his season and make sure he is making the right decision before he makes it known where he is going to play at the next level, there is another reason Garcia has held out. "I have a lot of teammates that are very talented who weren't getting much attention. When I talk to recruiters I tell them about my great linemen and my receivers, along with the many great defensive players we have."

Whether Stephen is lighting up the Tampa sky on his way to breaking the Hillsborough County all-time passing records, or whether he is promoting the status of his fellow players to college recruiters throughout the nation, you can bet wherever Garcia lands, that team will be getting a recruit that has all of the ability both mentally and physically to succeed at the next level as well.
