Conway (SC) star wide receiver J.R. Hemingway has had a busy summer. The Scout.com 4-star prospect had already taken unofficial visits to Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Florida, and Miami earlier in the summer, but Hemingway decided to visit Columbia (SC) for a look at the home state Gamecocks on Tuesday afternoon.
The 6’2, 205 pound wide receiver said that he enjoyed his time on the
South Carolina
campus.
“We went around the campus, toured the weight room, visited with Coach Spurrier, and looked at some of the class rooms. They told me about the history, and I met some of the players. It was pretty good.”
J.R. Hemingway
, who had previously claimed a top five list of schools, added South Carolina to the mix after his visit to Columbia.
“
Michigan
,
Notre Dame
,
Ohio State
,
Florida
,
Miami
, and South Carolina are my top six now. I like all of them to tell you the truth.”
Hemingway, who totaled 52 receptions for 846 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior, said he added South Carolina to his list of favorites because he knows, much like his other top schools, that they will throw the ball around on offense under Head Coach
Steve Spurrier
.
“I know they’re (South Carolina) going to throw the ball. They are going to spread the ball out wide just like the rest of them (the other schools on his list.) All of them are going to throw the ball, and that’s basically what it came down to in picking my top schools.”
The Palmetto State product, who is ranked by Scout.com as the #12 wide receiver in the nation, would like to make a decision before his senior season starts, but he is open to the possibility of taking some official visits during the season.
“I’m hoping (to decide) before the season, but if not, I’ll take it into the season and take some official visits. I’ll go from there.”
