Thursday's Practice Report - Pre Georgia 2005

Official Press Release

The South Carolina Gamecocks continued preparations for their nationally-televised game at Georgia by going through a 90 minute practice on Thursday afternoon. The Gamecocks will travel to Athens on Friday for Saturday's 5:40 p.m. ET kick against the No. 9 Bulldogs in a game that will be televised by ESPN ...
Following Thursday's practice, USC head coach
Steve Spurrier
addressed the media:
On the announcement of the home-and-home series with
North Carolina
: "Glad to see our athletics director and theirs got together on a game. Should be a good game for both schools. We don't have to worry about it for quite a while. I think it's good for both universities and both states. It probably makes more sense to play it on the campuses of both schools. I think it's a game the fans from both schools would like to see. Why not? We're South Carolina and they're North Carolina. It's like South Dakota and North Dakota,
West Virginia
and
Virginia
- they play each other. It's a logical game. They used to play all the time."
On
Chris Leak
breaking his consecutive pass record: "I didn't know it was still there. I had some good receivers - they caught everything. We had a lot of high percentage passes in the game plan, that's for sure. Congratulations to Chris Leak. He's a beautiful passer. He throws a much better ball than I ever did. His ball very seldom has any wobble on it."
On whether he has any records remaining at
Florida
: "Only as a coach."
"
Mike Davis
is scheduled to start at tailback. Daccus (Turman) can play some at the "one" back also. We've got all of them ready. We may see what
Taylor Rank
can do in live action."
"Our special teams play has to be better than it was last week."
On his expectations of what
Georgia
will do defensively: "I always expect them to do whatever they want to. If they feel like blitzing is what's best for them, they will, if they don't, they won't. We've got some sort of a plan for everything."
"If we're going to have any chance at all, the receivers and quarterbacks will have to play a huge part."
"Hopefully we'll come out ahead. Shoot, if we play our game and get a few breaks, anything can happen."
