Breaking news on the Dave Odom-Virginia situation...

Gamecock Nation has learned that Dave Odom will be staying at the University of South Carolina. Sources close to the story indicate that Athletic Director Mike McGee and Virginia's athletic director Craig Littlepage discussed the situation last night and there was no confirmation that Virginia had, no would they be requesting permission from McGee to speak with Odom regarding their head basketball coach vacancy.

Furthermore, sources close to the situation have indicated that Dave Odom is upset with incorrect information that had been broadcast earlier in the week. Specifically, information claiming that a deal had been struck with Virginia for 1.5 million dollars.

Odom had issued an official statement earlier in the week in which Odom clearly stated, "Over the past several weeks, I have had a number of telephone conversations with Craig," Odom said. "We spoke only about the NCAA Tournament and teams that the tournament committee should be considering. ...

"There was absolutely no discussion about my potential interest in the head coaching position at University of Virginia."

Another official statement is expected from Odom soon - one that will hopefully put all rumors to rest and all Odom to concentrate on more important matters at hand. While that statement is pending, Odom continues to recruit on behalf of the University of South Carolina, and himself, and has no intention of leaving in the foreseeable future.
