COLUMBIA, S.C. - Zac McCamie scattered seven hits over six innings to pick up his first win, Davy Gregg had three hits, and Michael Campbell homered Saturday in a 4-1 win that gave South Carolina its second consecutive victory over Longwood University...
The final game of the series is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Sunday at Sarge Frye Field. The Gamecocks are 2-0 on the season and Longwood fell to 1-6.
Gregg singled in the first, seventh and eighth innings and scored two of South Carolina's four runs.
Campbell gave the Gamecocks two insurance runs with a seventh inning home run. He also had a single. Brendan Winn drove in a first inning run with a sacrifice fly and Steven Tolleson also had an RBI with a single.
McCamie allowed at least one hit in each of the first five innings but left with a 2-1 lead. Andrew Cruse pitched two perfect innings with three strikeouts. Brent Marsh pitched the ninth to earn credit for his first save although he gave up two hits. Longwood out hit the Gamecocks 9-7.
Clay Horn, 0-1, allowed only three hits in five innings and only one of the two runs off him was earned but he was charged with the loss. South Carolina took a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the first inning. Gregg Singled, stole second and moved to third when Longwood left fielder Joe Bott dropped Campbell's long fly ball. Gregg scored on Winn's sacrifice fly.
Longwood tied it in the second inning. Corey Huemmer singled, moved to second on a sacrifice, and scored on a double by Tyler Childress. The Gamecocks took a 2-1 lead in the third. Campbell singled, took second on a wild pitch, and scored when Tolleson singled to right field. Gregg led off the Gamecock seventh with a bunt single and scored ahead of Campbell's drive over the right field fence.
Huemmer and Childress had two hits apiece for Longwood with Childress' double the Lancer's only extra base hit. Pinch hitter Steven Reinhold had a double for the Gamecocks.
