Columbia, S.C. - The South Carolina Gamecocks worked out in full pads again Wednesday afternoon, with the season opener against Vanderbilt in Nashville now just 10 days away ...

Injury update: OL Jonathan Alston (ankle) did not practice Wednesday. He is listed as day-to-day. WR Sidney Rice (shoulder) was limited again on Wednesday . Both could return to practice by week's end. Freshmen offensive linemen Jeremy Burgess (low back strain) and Evan Spanogians (right knee sprain) did not practice Wednesday.

* Freshman fullback Antonio Lamar, who was accepted to USC on Tuesday, worked out for the first time on Wednesday. Due to NCAA reporting rules, Lamar was able to practice in just shorts and helmet. He must go through three more days of shorts before he can have full contact.

* Following Wednesday's workout, assistant head coach Skip Holtz met with the media. Here are some of his comments: "We'll start to taper off a bit tomorrow (Thursday). We'll practice in shells (shorts, shoulder pads and helmet). We're doing some good things offensively. Our first team offensive line is really coming together. Chris White has been filling in for Jonathan Alston at guard and he is starting to come on. We've moved Woodly Telfort back to tackle and he is backing up Jabari Levey at left tackle. James Thompson, the freshman, is backing up Na'Shan Goddard at right tackle. I think we have 6 or 7 offensive linemen who are ready to play. Looking at the running back situation, it's still unsettled on who will start there. I think all four will play (Daccus Turman, Cory Boyd, Demetris Summers, Gonzie Gray). Who continues to progress and is the most effective at moving the chains and getting the ball in the end zone is what we're looking for. Sidney Rice should be able to help us at receiver, even though he's a freshman. He has been banged up and missed some time, and that has set him back some. He'll definitely be in the two-deep along with Michael Flint, Kris Clark and Travis Lee. Noah Whiteside has had a great preseason camp at receiver. Our defense has posed some problems for us during camp. They can come at you from a lot of different ways"

* Wide receiver Troy Williamson has traveled to New York for his father's funeral. Troy's father passed away last weekend after a lengthy illness. Troy is expected to return to Columbia by week's end.
