SUNDAY'S PRACTICE WRAP-UP:
The Gamecocks began Sunday with a 9:30 church service prior to taking the field for a walk through in t-shirts and shorts and no headgear at the Indoor Practice Facility. USC resumed workouts in pads during an afternoon session that lasted approximately three hours on the practice fields across from Williams-Brice Stadium.
MONDAY'S SCHEDULE:
Carolina begins double sessions on Monday with morning and afternoon practices. Both of Monday's sessions are closed.
INJURY UPDATE:
Redshirt freshman offensive lineman
Kris Mick
suffered a broken wrist during Friday's practice and is scheduled for surgery on Monday morning. He had been taking snaps as the backup center to John Strickland.
COMMENTS FROM THE COACH:
Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers coach
Chris Cosh
met with the media following Sunday's afternoon practice and offered the following comments:
(on Sunday's practice)
"During the morning walk through we mainly worked on corrections and adjustments from Saturday's practice. We spent some time highlighting some of the things we felt like we did not run enough yesterday. We went through a kicking period and group work and had a great team period that was very spirited before finishing up with goal line work."
(on the defensive scheme)
"As of the afternoon session, we have installed everything on defense, and have done it rather quickly. We need our players to master fundamentals as they pertain to the various blitzes and stunts in this defense. That is something we worked on today but there seems to be more concern about where they are going and supposed to be instead of focusing on the technique involved."
(on defensive newcomers)
"
Charles Silas
was back out at practice and went through drills today. The trainers work wonders. He has shown the ability to learn and grasp the defense and is very talented.
Ryan Brown
has a good upside has shown some good things.
Cody Wells
and Freddy Saint-Preux are also doing some good things."
(on the start of two-a-day practices)
"I am used to already being in two-a-days. It has kind of felt like spring practice out there this first week. It is different to be starting two practices per day after being here for a week. I am anxious to get started because we have a lot to do."
