No. 6, Chris Moody, SS, 6’1”, 241 lbs.
A redshirt sophomore, this defensive back could play either of the deep safety positions and was listed as the third-team strong safety on the preseason depth chart.
In 2012, this McDonough, Ga.-native redshirted as a true freshman. Last season brought new light to the 6-foot-1, 210 pound safety, who saw action in 12 games. Primarily used on special teams, he was credited with seven tackles.
Moody was thrown in the fire at the Tennessee game in 2013 when Chaz Elder was sideline for an injury and Kadetrix Marcus was ejected for targeting. This year, you should be seeing him a lot more.
The Georgia-Peach will likely be a starter in the safety position against Texas A&M. Showing leadership on the practice field, Moody has impressed the coaching staff and moved to the top of the line-up past T.J. Gurley and Marcus.
No. 6, Connor Mitch, QB, 6’3”, 211 lbs.
As of last Saturday, Mitch and quarterback Perry Orth are still in the duel of battling it out for that spot behind senior Dylan Thompson on the field. This redshirt freshman really impressed the coaching staff and got some reps in the spring.
Redshirting last fall, the Raleigh, N.C.-native was a four-year starter in high school. Scout.com ranked him as the 44th-best quarterback in the nation.
GamecockPride.com will keep you updated on these two players as the season progresses.
