Several Schools Interested in Wilson

2014 Charlotte (N.C.) West Mecklenburg running back Shaun Wilson had a breakout season in 2012. Now, several college programs are showing interest in the talented playmaker.

Shaun Wilson moved to a new school this fall. The transition was a smooth one.

"I transferred from my previous school Harding," he said. "It wasn't hard getting to know my new teammates and the coaching staff."

"Once I worked my way up and learned the offense, I got a lot more touches and put up some good numbers. I also made all-conference."

Like Wilson, his team also had a lot of success.

"We went 9-4,"said Wilson. "We started out 0-1, but then we went on a four-game winning streak. Then, we lost to (Charlotte) Catholic and went on another win streak."

His high level of play got the attention of several college coaching staffs.

"I'm hearing from Georgia and Louisville," said the 5-foot-9, 175-pound Wilson. "I'm also hearing from (North) Carolina more. South Carolina, Clemson, N.C. State, and Tennessee are also recruiting me and came by my school recently."

"North Carolina and South Carolina are recruiting me the hardest."

There is one school Wilson would like hear from more.

"I would like to hear from Oregon more," he said. "I got a letter from them my freshman year, but haven't heard from them since."

He was able to visit an in-state school during the fall.

"I went to North Carolina," he said. "It was a good visit. We got to take a tour around the facilities and we ate well."

Wilson is planning to take some more trips this spring and summer.

"I know I'm going to South Carolina for sure," he said. "I also might to go to Ohio State's camp and I want to go down to Clemson."

The talented running back is working hard to get better during the offseason.

"I want to get bigger, stronger, and faster," he said. "I really want to improve my leg strength, so I will be able to break more tackles."

Last season, Wilson ran for over 1,700 yards and 25 total touchdowns.
