Owens Talks Title, Recruiting

Gerald Owens

GLASSBORO, N.J. -- One of the top players in New Jersey's 2014 class is West Deptford High (Westville, N.J.) running back Gerald Owens, and after rushing for 216 yards and five touchdowns in the state title game win he spoke about his effort, and gave an update on his recruitment.

At 6-foot-1, 240 pounds, Gerald Owens isn't the conventional running back, but he is still very good. Owens battled Cedar Creek Regional High's defense for 216 yards and five touchdowns on 28 carries to lead West Deptford High (Westville, N.J.) to a 42-28 win in the South Jersey Group II title game.

Owens also showed his toughness by playing despite a huge welt over his left eye. It was a result of Owens losing his helmet on a play, but still getting hit.

Owens finished his junior season with 1,701 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns on 212 carries. He holds offers from Rutgers, Wisconsin, Temple, Boston College and South Carolina, and he spoke about both those as well.
