No. 1 Kansas State and No. 2 Oregon were upset Saturday night, which means Alabama has regained control of its destiny and is back in the national championship picture.

Just when Alabama’s chances of getting back into the national championship picture seemed slim to none, and just when it seemed like hope was all-but lost, the college football gods had a change of heart.

No. 1 Kansas State was shocked by Baylor 52-24 on the road.

No. 2 Oregon lost to No. 13 Stanford 17-14 in overtime at home.

In other words, Saturday night brought chaos.

So what does that mean for the Crimson Tide? It means they could be No. 2 in the new BCS standings that come out Sunday night and regain control of their own destiny.

Alabama (10-1, 6-1 SEC) was in the driver’s seat headed straight for Miami until new conference foe Texas A&M pulled off the upset last week. But the Tide regrouped and Saturday, took out all their aggression on poor Western Carolina, shutting out the FCS opponent 49-0.

All the Tide has to do now is beat a struggling Auburn team to make it to the SEC Championship game in Atlanta on Dec. 1. There they would meet Georgia (who is currently No. 5 but will probably be No. 3 when the new standings come out) and the winner could book themselves a business trip to South Florida in January.

Who doesn't love a little BCS shakeup in the final weeks of the season?
