UF kicked off the second quarter plagued by freshman Latroy Pittman's false start, junior Dominique Easley's off-sides spoof and junior Matt Elam's personal foul. The Gators capped off the second quarter with an illegal formation.
In the third quarter, sophomore Loucheiz Purifoy was nabbed with a pass interference and the team was later flagged for a delay of game. In the final quarter, Purifoy was called yet again, this time for holding.
In light of the afternoon's plethora of infractions, Muschamp said penalties haven't exactly been an unaddressed issue for his team this season.
"We've talked about it — we'll re-emphasize them again," Muschamp said of penalties. "We've emphasized it every day, in every situation we could. We've benched guys — we've done everything we can do. We've got to find another way."
In Florida's 10 games so far, they have tallied 79 penalties for 661 yards. Its opponents are 67 for 551 yards . Louisiana finished 5 for 45 yards.
Junior guard Jon Halapio, a captain for the Ragin' Cajuns faceoff, pinned communication as an issue for the mistakes on the o-line — especially with the younger players.
‘"We're only killing ourselves — just from snapping the ball, dumb things," Halapio said.
"We just have to pick it up together as a unit."
In the meantime, Halapio said he and the rest of the o-line would watch film, correct their mistakes and attack them come Monday's practice. Muschamp, however, said he's meeting with the coaching staff Sunday to figure out what UF's other options are for mending penalty issues for the remainder of the season since prior tactics aren't sticking.
