There are players with undeniable talent on every team. Some guys have a propensity to excel at their particular position, while others are strong at multiple positions. Enter 2013 Abbeville prospect Josh Martin. He started the year under center at quarterback and is back at his natural position of safety for the Panthers who are hoping to win a 3rd straight state championship!

Josh Martin Profile

The Abbeville Panthers are always one of the state's top teams year in and year out. Football is a part of life in the community and one of their top senior prospects Josh Martin is enjoying another successful season thus far with the Panthers. We caught up with the 2013 prospect to talk about his season, recruitment, and more in a quick update.

The Panthers are 9-2 on the season and get a bye this week as the AA playoffs begin tomorrow. They will face the winner of the Landrum-Saluda matchup next Friday.

Through 7 games Martin's stats may be somewhat confusing to understand but Martin is one of the Panthers' top prospects in that he lines up all over the field wherever the coaching staff needs him and makes plays. He recalled his stats through the first 7 games of the season for us.

"Through 7 games on defense I had 28 tackles, 13 assists, 1 TFL, 1 interception, and 1 pass breakup. Rushing I had 41 carries for 198 yards and 1 touchdown. Passing I was 7-25 for 85 yards and 1 touchdown."

His efforts on the field haven't gone unnoticed as one in-state program has been in consistent contact throughout the season he says.

"Charleston Southern is recruiting me the hardest out of everybody. Most schools are recruiting me at safety."

Other schools that Martin says have shown interest are South Carolina State and UNC Charlotte.

Martin talked about his goals for the Panthers and himself heading down the playoff stretch.

"I want to win region, be named All-Region, All-State, and win state again."

Again you ask? Martin and the Panthers won the 1A state championship the past two seasons and have now moved up to the AA ranks where they hope to continue their winning ways.

We asked Martin which team he's faced was the toughest and he had this to say.

"Woodruff. They had a lot of good weapons and used them."

We'll keep you posted about Josh Martin and the Panthers' run at a third consecutive state championship so keep it locked right here!
