Pharoh Cooper is an explosive athlete that started off his 2012 season with a bang. Here's an update on Cooper in regards to his 2012 season opener, future position in college and even where his name came from.
Pharoh Cooper
has a name that exudes greatness.
His season opener with Havelock certainly showcased the greatness that Cooper brings to the football field.
Havelock defeated J.H. Rose by a score of 48-14 behind Cooper, who has made the switch to quarterback.
Here's what Cooper had to say of his season opener:
I felt I did alright for the first game but could've done better! I had 138 passing yards for two touchdowns and 78 yards rushing. I did miss a couple of open receivers but just gotta work on that in practice!
Cooper just recently started playing quarterback and so far so good.
I'm liking it so far! Still getting used to everything as far as making reads and reading pass coverage! But everything is going great!
While the quarterback position is new to Cooper, he will likely end up on the defensive side of the ball for the Gamecocks.
I'll be defense for sure,
said Cooper,
but they said I'll be playing some Wildcat quarterback and punt return.
Cooper said things have slowed down on recruiting since becoming a
South Carolina
commitment.
It hasn't stopped him from doing some recruiting himself. Cooper is currently recruiting 2014 RB
Derrell Scott
for the Gamecocks.
Yes! I'm still recruiting him! He has a lot of time though.
Cooper said he doesn't yet know when his official visit will be but it will be after the season.
Lastly, Cooper had this to say about his unique first name:
My mom was going to name me at first but my dad decided to name me Pharoh. I don't know why, that's just what it was!
He may not know why he was named Pharoh, but his parents knew he was destined for great things.
Cooper and the Havelock Rams return to the field this Friday to take on New Bern.
