Knott picks the SEC

Sandy Creek (Tyrone, Ga.) three-star OG Alan Knott committed to South Carolina Sunday night.

South Carolina landed its second offensive line commitment from Georgia in as many days when Sandy Creek (Tyrone, Ga.) three-star commitment Alan Knott gave his pledge to Shawn Elliott.

Knott first informed Elliott on Facebook of his intentions then gave the Gamecocks' o-line coach a call around around 9:15, according to his father, Tommy Knott.

Knott has had a top two of South Carolina and North Carolina for some time, but chose the Gamecocks over the Tar Heels, and other suitors, including ECU, Miami, USF, Southern Miss, Syracuse, UCF and Virginia Tech, primarily due to the appeal of the SEC, according to his father.

"He's been thinking a lot about committed to South Carolina in the past week," Tommy Knott said. "And he wants to play in the SEC. He really likes the coaching staff and feels like he's going to have a great opportunity to win a national championship, so he wanted to go ahead and pull the trigger."

Tommy Knott says that the family will visit Columbia either Thursday or Friday to tour the campus again.

The 6-foot-4, 270-pound prospect is rated the No. 66 OG and a three-star prospect by

"He was just leaning towards the SEC, he feels like that's the best conference in football," Tommy Knott said. "That's where he wanted to play, so that's what it basically came down to."

Alan Knott was at a team camp and was not available for comment.

He is the No. 17 commitment to the 2013 class for the Gamecocks.

"We're ready to be South Carolina fans," Tommy Knott said. Recommended Stories
