South Carolina added its second commitment in the last 24 hours when former Gamecock signee and curren Georgia Military College standout Brandon Golson gave his pledge to special teams coach Joe Robinson.
A long, winding journey is very close to ending in Columbia for former Calhoun County standout and current Georgia Military linebacker
Brandon Golson
.
Golson went public with a commitment to
South Carolina
Wednesday night -- the Gamecocks' second pickup in the last 24 hours -- and plans to enroll in January at the school he originally signed with in 2010.
When he didn't qualify, he enrolled at Fork Union Military Academy for a semester, intent on enrolling at South Carolina the next spring. But when he was told in January that he wouldn't qualify to enroll at USC at the time, he instead enrolled at
Louisville
.
Golson went through spring practice at Louisville, but had to leave after his qualifying test score was reportedly flagged and thrown out.
Golson then enrolled at GMC where he had a productive first season.
"It was kind of weird," Golson said of his initial reaction to getting the Carolina offer. "I thought they weren't going to offer again after the fact I didn't get in the first time," Golson said in an interview with Gamecock Anthem after picking up the offer.
"Apparently, they didn't give up on me," he added.
"That's my home team, I guess," he said in the same interview. "A bunch of my former teammates went there and they're doing alright. I think I would fit right in, probably, if I was to go there."
The 6-foot-2, 233-pound prospect chose USC over offers from
Kansas
,
Kansas State
,
Middle Tennessee
State.
Golson was busy at the time, but said he would available for comment later tonight, when he confirmed the commitment via text message.
Golson is the Gamecocks' 15th commit of the 2013 class after
Ali Groves
became No. 14 last night.
