One of the biggest prospects in the state of South Carolina this season has his eye on the Gamecocks ...
While waiting for the offers to come in to Darlington (SC) offensive lineman
Nygel Pearson
, the big man has plenty to think about regarding his collegiate decision.
"Right now I really like
North Carolina
,
Tennessee
,
South Carolina
,
Vanderbilt
, and
Georgia Tech
," says the 6-foot-6, 300 pounder. "South Carolina State is the only school that has offered yet. The other schools want me to camp first, so I probably will do that."
Pearson, who graded out at 88% as a junior and has a 290 pound bench and 400 pound squat, says North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee are all tied for the lead.
"Those three are neck-and-neck. I am looking for a good coaching staff that will be around for a while. We are going through a coaching change right now and it is not fun at all."
Already having visited all three school, Pearson recalls what he came away from the trips thinking.
"All the schools are within driving distance from home, so that helps all of them. With Tennessee, I would be able to play in front of a huge crowd, which intruiges me. They also have a really good coaching staff.
"South Carolina is 45 minutes from home. That coaching staff is very close-knit, and I know it will be there a long time.
"North Carolina has a great coaching staff as well, and the stadium feel just like home."
Pearson says that should the right offer come along, he may not last long on the market.
"If an offer comes early from any of those three, I could commit early. My goal is to commit around mid-season."
