Allentown Central Catholic (Pa.) QB Brendan Nosovitch says he's favored South Carolina for some time. And South Carolina quarterbacks coach G.A. Mangus identified Nosovitch as his primary quarterback target as early as before spring practice.

Tuesday, Nosovitch made it official and Mangus got his top target.

"It's a really exciting day," Nosovitch said. "I'm just really excited about it. My family, everyone, [is excited]. I can't wait to get down to South Carolina next, but first and foremost [I want to] just focus on my senior season. It's definitely a great day."

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound prospect says he's known for a couple of weeks that he was going to commit to South Carolina.

Nosovitch chose the Gamecocks over offers from Clemson, Virginia, Maryland and Georgia Tech among others.

"Virginia and Maryland were in it, but I always had South Carolina ahead of them anyway," the three-star prospect says. "I liked Virginia and Maryland a lot, but South Carolina was definitely the school I want to go to."

Much of that was because of the bond he formed with Mangus, his future position coach at South Carolina, from the beginning.

"He definitely was giving me really a heart-to-heart," Nosovitch said. "We talked a lot -- every week we talked. We have a really good relationship and hopefully we're going to have a good one in the future, and I'm really looking forward to working with him on everything."

Nosovitch, who willed his team down the field for the game-winning drive in the state championship last season, has the main goal for his senior season of getting back to that point with his high school team. He completed 60-percent of his passes for 3,112 yards and 43 touchdowns, while also rushing for 1,647 yards and another 25 touchdowns in his junior campaign.

His personal goals for his senior year just involve getting better.

"I feel like I just need to work on my overall game," Nosovitch said. "Mechanical stuff a little bit -- I guess you can always be more accurate, because I know once you get to the next level it's going to be a couple of steps up."

If the Gamecocks' 2012 class is any indication, the dual threat quarterback will have plenty of talented targets to throw to when he gets to Columbia. In the last week, five-star WR Shaq Roland, four-star WR Kwinton Smith and three-star WR Jody Fuller committed to the Gamecocks.

"When I saw those guys committing, I definitely got excited. It's great news."

He says in the end, the situation at South Carolina was just too good to pass up.

"When I went down there I just knew it was a great place, great campus," Nosovitch says. "There was a lot of good people around there, academics were very good as well. And to have a chance to place in the SEC is a great opportunity. It all came together and really made my decision a lot easier."

While his final high school goal involves a championship, so does his overall goal for his time at South Carolina.

"I definitely just want to be a leader in the program and hopefully in a couple of other years go to the national championship in football. Other sports are getting it, so a national championship in football for the Gamecocks."
