Scout's Take

Clowney is a special player that does not come along every year. At defensive end, he just wrecks havoc on a regular basis. He has such explosiveness off the edge, he covers so much ground in such a short amount of time, and he has such long arms that he is just tough to defend. He does a nice job of getting off the ball, dipping his shoulder, and exploding into the quarterback. He is a better pass rusher than he is run stopper at this time, but he as he develops more strength and learns to play with better pad level and active hands, then that will improve. Some of the plays he makes are amazing and not seen very often. Not only is he is a special end, but he is a special athlete. He is often compared to Julius Peppers who played some running back in high school and I like that comparison. He moves so well, he is very fluid, he can change direction, and he is someone who could drop back into coverage and do quite well. Clowney will make a big impact early on the next level and the Gamecock fans have to be excited to once again land the top prospect in their home state and one of the premier prospects in America.
